The Meaning of Truth in Games for Investigative Journalism

When used in journalism, games, like all other forms of visual storytelling, must adhere to the journalistic standards of fairness and accuracy. But in a medium where all players will make their own decisions and are, at minimum, somewhat in charge of their own experiences, how exactly do we make games that adhere to those standards? Looking at the process of making "Asylum Seeker," a collaboration between game designers and an investigative journalism nonprofit, we’ll talk about misinterpretations, implications, and the journalistic vetting process on everything in the game, including all text, art and even the user experience.
